2023 Summer Special

Overnight Wilderness Excursion

Experience the “wild” native culture of the Sierra Nevada foothills at this private remote property.  Camp under the stars, enjoy stunning canyon views, and discover hidden gems, swimming holes, fishing, and wild animals.  View the Sacramento Valley from Mt. Diablo to Oregon, including Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen.  Transportation into the canyon and hiking guides are included.

There are many designated campsites available on this 280 acre private property.  Camp on a raised wood deck overlooking the canyon, or in a hidden cave, or by the water.  Enjoy nature hikes and learn the rich history of the Ishi Indians where the last of the Yahi tribe were discovered in 1908.  Our guides will tour you through this remote canyon, and show you caves and areas that were used by the tribe for shelter and ceremonies. You will also learn a variety of skills such as preparing camp, building a fire from scratch (seasonally), and preparing safe drinking water.  This is very rugged and remote territory.

Sleep under the stars and spend time outdoors learning lifelong lessons. This is a one-of-a-kind experience you will never forget. Day Trips

We offer one-day hiking trips almost every weekend throughout the year, and upon request during the week. If you are looking to explore the best spots in Northern California, we’ve got you covered. Day trips involve hiking natural terrain such as mountains, hills, forests, and valleys while taking in the scenic beauty of the surroundings. Day trips provide an excellent opportunity to exercise and enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and natural environment. Day trips vary in difficulty and can last anywhere from a couple hours to an entire day.

We recommend day trips that match the hiker’s fitness level. We have hikes customized for all fitness levels; from easy to moderate, to difficult.  Come join us as we explore these natural wonders!

Bidwell Park

Explore scenic trails and natural caves as we hike through Bidwell Park and learn about the history.

High Lakes

Hike to the high lakes of Northern California with your float tube and enjoy a day of fishing…maybe even try your chances at “tickling a trout”.

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Explore areas such as Bumpass Hell, Sulphur Works, Cinder Cone, and many other natural formations and lakes.


We offer guided tours to Feather Falls, Burney Falls, Dunsmuir Falls, and many others throughout the year, including Secret Falls where you can hike and explore the backside of a waterfall and walk through it. 

Sacramento River

Kayak the Sacramento River and enjoy the scenic journey and experience different animal species, including freshwater otters, beavers, native birds, red fox, and much more. For this trip, you will need to provide your own gear, be an experienced kayaker, and an avid swimmer.

Mountain Biking

Mountain bike down Bidwell Canyon or in Downieville with medium/advanced and extreme slopes. You must have all your own gear and be an experienced downhill bicyclist  

Mt. Shasta

Mount Shasta is a majestic peak located in northern California, and it is one of the tallest and most prominent mountains in the state. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, as it offers a wide range of recreational activities such as hiking, skiing, fishing, and camping. Explore the summit and Castle Crags. Ice Caves

These giant crystal caves are only accessible in the spring, summer, and fall (depending on weather). Located about an hour from Chico, these deep caves provide hours of exploration and are a great way to cool off in the summer. 

Subway Caves

Explore the underground world of a lava tube. Located in Lassen National Forest, these unique tunnels were formed by lava and water.

    For one-day hikes, we recommend the following:

    • Shoes with ankle support
    • Good pair of socks (plus extra pair)
    • Pants preferably with knee protection
    • Shorts (we usually find some type of water to cool off)
    • Gloves
    • Glasses for eye protection
    • Suntan lotion and hat for sun cover
    • Walking stick
    • First aid kit and bug spray
    • Snacks (granola bars, trail mix, etc.)
    • Plenty of water for hydration
    • Backpack (less than 10 pounds)

    For overnight adventures, we recommend everything listed above, plus the following:

    • Flashlight
    • Sleeping bag

    About Mt. Shasta

    California Native American History

    California has a rich and diverse Native American history that stretches back over 10,000 years. The state was home to more than 100 distinct Native American tribes, each with their own unique cultures, languages, and customs. The state’s indigenous population thrived for thousands of years, living off the land and developing complex social structures and art forms.

    The earliest known inhabitants of California were the Paleo-Indians, who arrived around 12,000 years ago. These people were hunter-gatherers who lived in small nomadic bands and relied on the abundant natural resources of the region, such as acorns, seeds, and wild game. Over time, these early groups developed more complex societies, with larger settlements and new technologies like pottery and agriculture.

    One of the most famous Native American cultures in California is that of the Chumash, who lived along the coast of Southern California for thousands of years. The Chumash were skilled seafarers who built intricate canoes and used them to hunt for fish and sea mammals. They also had a complex spiritual and ceremonial life, and created beautiful rock art and other works of art.

    Other notable Native American tribes in California include the Ohlone, who lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Pomo, who lived in the northern part of the state, and the Hupa, who lived in the northwestern part of the state.
